My name is Lioni Velasquez.
I was Uchi-Deshi with Dr. Philip Chenique for 11 years. Being
a live in student is a life changing experience. I have learned
to be a better teacher, businessman and leader. I have also
discovered it is not what you are doing for yourself, but
what you can give to others that really make a difference.
Becoming a Black Belt does not
make you a teacher; it only proves that you have mastered
your basic techniques. While training in the Uchi-Deshi program
I have observed that learning in the Dojo is like formal schooling.
You begin with the basics (Grade School); you gain a mastery
of the basics
(High School) and if you are interested in teaching you study
how to teach. (College) The Uchi-Deshi program is Graduate
School for Teaching and Running an Atemi Ryu Ju-Jitsu School.
Although I have made many Sacrifices, I don't regret it for
a moment. An Uchi-Deshi Program is not for everyone. However,
if you truly love the martial arts, not allergic to sweat
and a little hard work this will be an experience like no
other in the world. You will have a great time starting a
wonderful Career.
Many Great teachers learned
their craft in Uchi-Deshi programs.

As one can plainly see these
men became very influential teachers and philosophers, through
them thousands of great teachers emerged. I hope my words
have not only inspired you, but also help you make the decision
to become an Uchi-Deshi.
Thank you,
